What Is BMW xDRIVE Technology?
BMW xDRIVE technology is an advanced, permanent all-wheel drive system that ensures your BMW has the best possible traction at all times. This helps to keep you safe in inclement weather and in imperfect driving conditions, and helps provide smooth, sporty performance.

How Does BMW xDRIVE Work?
Under normal circumstances, xDRIVE distributes drive power between the front and rear axles in a 40:60 ratio. When road conditions change, xDRIVE can change this distribution to provide the most power to the axles with traction, even allocating up to 100% of its power to one axle. Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) helps to regulate xDRIVE, using sensors to monitor road conditions and providing brake force when it detects wheel spin is likely to occur.
When the BMW xDRIVE system detects oversteering, it can send more power to the front axle. If it detects understeering, drive power to the front axle can be reduced. This helps ensure that vehicle stability returns to normal quickly, often before the driver even notices any slippage occur.
