Corrective Action

BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driveshaft, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 24, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Recall Service & Dealership Highlights

Protect Occupants and Traction

NHTSA describes five air bag recalls involving inflators or modules that may rupture when deployment is needed, potentially sending sharp metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants and causing serious injury or death. Two additional recalls involve the front driveshaft universal joint, where water and debris may cause excessive wear and failure. A failed joint can affect front-wheel drive and traction, damage other components, and increase crash risk. Waiting may leave a safety remedy unfinished. Bring your vehicle in promptly for a VIN check and avoid delaying an inspection when a recall notice or safety concern has prompted you to act.
