Corrective Action

BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driveshaft, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 24, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Recall Service & Dealership Highlights

Protect Occupants and Traction

NHTSA identifies two air bag recalls for this BMW. A defective inflator may explode during deployment and send sharp metal fragments toward the driver or passengers, causing serious injury or death. A separate front driveshaft recall addresses water and debris entering the universal joint, which can lead to excessive wear, loss of front-wheel drive, traction concerns, additional component damage, and increased crash risk. Waiting can leave a known safety issue unresolved. If you received a recall notice, noticed a safety concern, or do not know whether prior work was completed, arrange a free VIN check promptly and avoid delaying the manufacturer remedy.
